Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 18, 1995.
The divided shield and the two keys are taken from the arms of the Diocese of Halberstadt, as the city was a possession of the Bishops of Halberstadt, who granted the city rights in the 13th century. In 1235 Oschersleben was mentioned as city. It remained part of the State of Halberstadt until 1648, when the city became part of Brandenburg.
The three reeds refer to the marshlands that surrounded the town in medieval times. In the oldest document where Oschersleben is mentioned, the granting of town rights to Quedlinburg, it is stated that the jurisdiction of ended on the marshlands of Oschersleben (document of 23-11-994).
The historical seals of Oschersleben are known from 1345, but are probably older. They show St. Nicholas, the patron saint of the city. The arms only appeared on the seals probably in the 16th century, the oldest document with the seal showing the arms dates from 1602. The great seal from 1633 also showed the arms. The arms have not changed since.
