The arms show the old village sign of Ulm, which is first mentioned in a document from 1762. The oldest seal of Ulm dates from the early 19<sup>th</sup> century and shows the symbol without a shield. A later 19<sup>th</sup> century seal shows the symbol in a crowned shield.
