Origin/meaning

In 1300 the village of Löbenicht, a suburb of the city of Königsberg, was raised to a city and henceforth called 'Neustadt Königsberg' (Neustadt=new city), while the older city was called 'Altstadt Königsberg' or Königsberg. Löbenicht used since the 14th century a blue (sometimes green) shield with a open golden crown, placed between two silver six-pointed stars. The shield is covered with a helmet and two angels act as supporters. These were used until the merger in 1724.
